Congratulations to our 2018 JFK Scholarship recipient…

Lauren Jessica Heard!

Ms. Lauren Jessica Heard is a senior at Hazel Green High School and will graduate with honors in the spring of 2018. She has been involved in several extracurricular activities that include being a member of the HGHS Marching Band Color Guard (Captain), Student Government Association (Senior Class President), National Honor Society (Secretary), Junior Civitan Club (President), Junior Optimist Club, Spanish Club, National Spanish Honor Society, Trojan Ambassadors, Trojan S.P.A.R.K.S., Club 30, Principal’s Advisory Committee, Yearbook Staff, and Office Aide Staff. She has also received many awards and honors, such as A Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Outstanding Achievement Award, Delta Sigma Theta Inc. Four-Year Academic Scholar Award, and Samford University Alabama Governor’s School Award. She enjoys giving back to the community and has served as a volunteer with Burritt on the Mountain as a camp counselor, Special Olympics, Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church Nursery (of which she is a member), and Hazel Green Elementary School where she tutors and mentors an at-risk student. Jessica plans to attend Auburn University and pursue a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, she plans to enroll in pharmacy school. Her ultimate goal is to become a pharmaceutical scientist with dreams of making new discoveries that help people live better lives.
