MADISON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN OPPOSES THE NOMINATION OF SENATOR JEFF SESSIONS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES. In this capacity, Mr. Sessions would have broad and sweeping authority over enforcement of civil rights, disability rights, and voting rights. He will also have oversight of enforcement of immigration law, employment, national security, surveillance, antitrust and housing.

“Senator Sessions has long opposed legislation that is core to Democratic principles and values. He opposes bipartisan immigration reform, marriage equality, and voted against the Violence Against Women Act. He supports mass deportation,” commented Susan Higgins, Chair of Madison County Democratic Women. Ms. Higgins went on to note that  “he has failed to right his record on women’s issues, on integration, and on voting rights. We cannot support a man who is opposed to all that we have worked for, and who is against laws that provide protection against discrimination.”

Madison County Democratic Women stands with many organizations, including the NAACP, the ACLU, and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the Congressional Black Caucus and numerous women’s rights groups in demanding that the US Senate not confirm Sessions.

Madison County Democratic Women is a membership organization of like-minded women and men in North Alabama who support the principles of the Democratic Party. Additional information can be found at
